Production of local or regional anaesth by infiltration techniques; IV regional anaesth, by peripheral nerve block techniques eg intercostal blocks; major plexus blocks eg brachial plexus blocks & by epidural & subarachnoid blocks. As Spray: Surface anaesth: In dentistry Otorhinolaryngology for maxillary sinus Paracentesis During delivery Introduction of instruments & catheters into the resp & digestive tract Laryngeal & tracheal procedures As Gel: As a surface anaesth & lubricant for the male & female urethra during cystoscopy, catheterisation, exploration by sound & other endourethral procedures, nasal & pharyngeal cavities in endoscopic procedures eg gastroscopy & bronchoscopy, during proctoscopy & rectoscopy & tracheal intubation. Symptomatic treatment of pain in connection w/ cystitis & urethritis. As Rectal Cream or suppositories for hemorrhoids
Hypersensitivity to amide type local anaesth.
CNS reactions, either excitatory or depressant. CV reactions, mainly depressant. Maternal hypotension. Rarely allergic reactions. Local irritation, allergic reactions, acute systemic toxicity. CNS toxicity, severe hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmia, CV collapse. Rarely, systemic side effects & anaphylactic shock. Rarely, anaphylactic shock. Post-op sore throat following endotracheal tube lubrication. Anaphylactic shock caused by other constituents.
Antiarrhythmic drugs, ?-blockers, cimetidine, anticonvulsive agents such as phenobarb, primidone, carbamazepine & diphenylhydantoin, amiodarone, inhalational anaesth, skeletal muscle relaxants, structurally-related local anaesth. Agents structurally related to local anaesth. Use in caution w/ antiarrhythmics class III, cimetidine or ?-blockers.
Inj should always be made slowly w/ frequent aspirations. Debilitated, elderly or acutely ill patients. Patients w/ preexisting abnormal neurological conditions, severe bradycardia, cardiac conduction disturbances or severe digitalis intoxication, hepatic &/or renal impairment, genetic predisposition to malignant hyperthermia. Paracervical blocks during pregnancy. Avoid intravascular inj. Multiple-dose vials are not recommended for intrathecal anaesth. Paralyzed patients under general anaesth; patients w/ traumatized mucosa, partial or complete heart block, advanced liver disease or severe renal dysfunction, debilitated or elderly patients & childn. Oropharyngeal use may interfere w/ swallowing & thus enhance the danger of aspiration. Numbness of the tongue or buccal mucosa may increase the danger of biting trauma. May temporarily impair locomotion & coordination.
