Quadruple limb transplant patient died on Monday

(ePharmaNews) - Sevket Cavdar, the Turkish patient who had the first, four-limbs transplant in the world did not survive the complications and died on Monday, the hospital announced


In preparations for the procedure, the leading doctor appealed for blood donation in case of uncontrolled hemorrhage during the operation. The transplant operation continued for around 20 hours and included the participation of fifty-two doctors from Ankara's University Hospital.
The patient had lost his both legs and arms due to electric shock in 1998, he had a triple-limb transplant in another hospital in Antalya two months ago, but the operation failed and the surgeons were forced to remove the leg due to tissue incompatibility.
After the transplant in Ankara, The patient was transferred to Intensive Care Unit ICU where he had a "metabolic imbalance" and died.
'We are in deep sorrow of losing our patient despite the ceaseless efforts of nearly 200 doctors and health personnel for about 90 hours,' The hospital announced.
